The last of the Treefrogs

New cardboard being handed over by the postie is usually an occasion of joy. Yesterday’s delivery was tinged with a little sadness. The game that arrived was ‘Ships' (the last of Martin Wallace’s 2014 Treefrog Subscription) I am huge fan of Martin’s game designs – theme led, idiosyncratic, risky, and cerebral. I had a long chat with Martin at Essen and he explained that he wanted to concentrate on design and not have to worry about the risks that come with publishing games.  I wish him well but I will miss my deliveries from Treefrog. ‘Ships’ (not played yet) looks to be a fitting finale to the subscription series – transport themed and a gamer’s game.
